An incredible, rich Christmas coffee made with a chocolate espresso base, homemade biscotti syrup, and almond-infused whipped cream

2shotsespressoor 1 cup very strong coffee
1/2cuphot wateromit if using regular coffee
1/2cupmilk - dairy or plant-based
1Tbspunsweetened cocoa powder
2Tbspsweetened condensed milk
1/2tsbpvanilla extract
1/4cupwater
1/4cupgranulated sugar
1/4cupchopped almonds, hazelnuts, or combination
1/2tspalmond extract
1/2tspanise extract
1/2cupheavy cream
1Tbspconfectioner's sugar
1/2tspalmond extract
crushed biscotti crumbs or grated dark chocolate for garnish - why not both?
Instructions
Part One - Start by making the biscotti syrup
In a small saucepan, combine 1/4 cup water and granulated sugar and heat over medium heat until the sugar dissolves
Add chopped nuts and let the mixture simmer for 20-25 minutes until slightly thickened
Remove from heat and strain to remove the bits of nuts (save them for a topping or enjoy a quick snack right now)
Add 1/2 tsp almond extract and anise extract and stir
Set aside to cool
Part Two - Whipped Cream
In a chilled bowl, whip the heavy cream until soft peaks form
Add the confectioners sugar and 1/2 tsp almond extract and continue whipping until stiff peaks form
Part Three - Coffee Base
Pull two shots of espresso and add 1/4 to 1/2 cup of hot water or brew a cup of very strong coffee - we recommend using a Moka pot for this recipe
In a separate pan, heat the milk, cocoa powder, and sweetened condensed milk over medium heat - whisk until combined and heated through (but not boiling)
Add the espresso or coffee to the pot and stir well
Add the vanilla extract and give it a final stir
Part Four - Assemble your Creation
Pour the biscotti syrup into the bottom of a large festive mug
Slowly pour the coffee base over the syrup, allowing the flavors to swirl and combine
Top with a generous dollop of the homemade almond-flavored whipped cream
Add your desired toppings - we recommend a generous amount of dark chocolate shavings
Serve immediately

This recipe makes enough for an oversized mug - or 2 regular servings
