Iced Version of Starbucks Caramel Macchiato with Homemade Syrups

sugar

vanilla extract
or a vanilla bean is preferable
1/2

brown sugar

tablespoons
butter

half & half

pinch
salt

milk

espresso
Instructions
Start with the vanilla syrup by boiling 1 cup of water and 1 cup of sugar
Reduce the heat to simmer and cook for 5-10 more minutes
Let the syrup cool, and then stir in the vanilla extract - VANILLA SYRUP ready!
For the caramel, combine brown sugar, butter, half & half, and a pinch of salt
Slowly heat the mixture on medium-low for a few minutes
Turn the heat down to low and continue cooking for 10 minutes
Cool the mixture - CARAMEL SAUCE ready!
Put about a tablespoon of the vanilla syrup in the bottom of a mug
Froth the milk and layer on top of the vanilla syrup
Prepare one shot of espresso and pour it through the foam
Drizzle your homemade caramel sauce on top
Finally! Give it a taste (refrigerate the sauce and syrup for your next Caramel Macchiato craving.
Notes
Double the vanilla syrup and/or caramel sauce if you prefer a sweeter drink.
